Powers Of Attorney (POA)

When should you make a power of attorney?
A POA is a document that is usually used in situations where you are unable to make legal decisions on your own behalf and you want someone else to have the power to do so. Some common circumstances in which people make POAs are when they are going into hospital for a prolonged period of time or when they are going overseas indefinitely.

Who should you appoint?
A general POA gives the attorney the power to act on your behalf in a wide range of legal functions. For instance, the attorney will have full access to all your bank accounts and can take out debts in your name. You should ensure that you only appoint an attorney that you fully trust. A POA can be revoked at any time by simply informing the attorney.
