Is the service provided by HALC free?
HALC provides a free service for clients with HIV-related legal matters. HALC gratefully accepts donations to provide better and ongoing services and facilities.
Do I have to be HIV+ to get assistance from HALC?
You may not be HIV+, but nevertheless have an HIV-related legal matter. Please contact us for advice.
When I make an appointment, will I see a solicitor?
HALC is staffed by qualified solicitors and volunteers who are generally law students completing their legal qualifications. When you attend HALC you will usually see a volunteer who will deal with your matter with supervision from a solicitor.
I have a Hepatitis C related legal problem, can HALC assist me?
Yes, HALC also provides advice to clients with Hepatitis C related matters. Please contact us for further advice.
I live outside NSW and have an HIV related legal problem, can HALC assist me?
HALC is funded to provide legal assistance to clients within New South Wales. If you are in another state, please contact us for further advice, we may be able to assist or refer you to an appropriate service in your area.
Is the service provided by HALC confidential? Do I have to give you my name if I telephone you for advice?
Client confidentiality is of utmost importance to HALC. However, we ask that clients provide us with their name and contact details so that we can contact you regarding your matter.
Do I have to disclose my HIV status before having sexual intercourse?
